The Beauty of Humble Places

Jun 3, 2025

Many have heard me say time and time again that beautiful things come from humble places.  Consider your garden or the potted plant on your balcony.  This small, dried seed when planted in the dirt grows and blossoms into a beautiful flower. A reminder that the humble dirt is exactly where that seed needs to be to flourish.

Throughout our lives we all can remember times when life has brought us down to one of those humble places. But perhaps that’s just where we need to be to grow and understand life’s new lessons. It’s these humble times when the seeds of endurance and patience take root in our hearts and minds. It’s during these humble moments when we are in need of help from others, when we discover the generosity and kindness coming to our aid.

It's in these humble places where we understand that we are not alone. God is with us and will see us through difficult times. Recently, a good friend of mine was facing a large financial crisis. Her family was thrust into a humble place. There were doubts about being able to pay the bills and even put food on the table for her children. Yet she maintained a confident smile and a joyful demeaner as she told me, “I get to see how God is going to provide!”

Several years ago, I was reminded by my daughter when my family was facing humbling financial times, when she said, “What’s the big deal? It’s a new life experience – and God doesn’t waste life experiences!” Beautiful wisdom from a 16-year-old girl.

Just as we wait for the seed to germinate and grow, sometimes we need to wait amid our humble times to see life flourish once again. But as you wait, you’ll grow to appreciate that through faith, God is still with you. You get the opportunity to see how God will provide and make life’s humble experiences bloom into something beautiful!
